“The reviewers under rate this (over lengthy!) film’s value for kids. This includes the experience of indigenous people (the forest people) in the face of invasion (from the sky people-humans) and the experience of refugees (the forest people seeking refuge with the water people) having to learn a new culture from scratch. The whale hunting for a tiny amount of oil for eternal youth can be compared to hunting elephants for ivory. While clumsy at times, the value of strong family ties as a bulwark against adversity was also a dominant theme. I had lengthy conversations with my 10 year old about this film……”
