“Episodes 101-109 were truely engrossing. I can't say I'm normally a fan of old Western anything- except Pleasure Town. It's one of my favourite podcasts. The characters are creative and interesting and I found myself anxious to hear the next piece of their stories. The music is very good and quite catchy and the voices are clear and well played. It's very easy to drift off into a Wild West fantasy town while listening.
Episode 110, however, I really didn't like. It wasn't very creative and it sounded like a direct knock off of this American Life. It was also jarring to have a narrarator without much of an accent juxtaposed against all the characters using rural accents. I also didn't find it as effective as the other first person stories.... it had the feel of a reporter reporting on her expierience and it felt a lot more removed. This would've worked for me if it was non-fiction narriative but being fiction one of the most absorbing qualities of this podcast is its tendency to enchant me into the suspension of disbelief.... something that just doesn't work when it sounds like I accidentally clicked the TAL podcast instead and I'm listening to what might as well be the story about the guy who drove a NY municpal bus to Florida on a whim. Don't get me wrong, I love TAL too, it's an iconic show, but it's only inventive and unique have a style that can be imediately identified as a copy of TAL if you are TAL. Anything else that tries that hard to be TAL just becomes a second rate knock off.”Read full review »

“Not quite soap opera, but certainly broad in it’s reach following many characters popping in and out of time in the life of a community. Fanciful and philosophical.”
