Simplicius did it for me!
After listening to countless hours of Saga Thing, Rex Factor, and Totalus Rankium, I began working through this series (at this point, listening to TR and Pontifacts in chronological synchronization). I know I've dropped the ball by not reviewing the above programs, but the Simplicius episode of Pontifacts is possibly the epitome of podcast history. Fry and Bry clearly articulate the details of the schism between the churches of Rome and Constantinople, while touching on the political, ethnic, and military movements that led to the fall of Rome. I've heard it explained by Gibbon (via audiobook), Mike Duncan, and Totalus Rankium, but none have captured the drama of this massive historical moment with such clarity, excitement, and humor. I'll be adding this episode to my permanent collection for repeat listens. Well done!Read full review »

This podcast is so much fun to listen to. I listen to it every morning on my walk to school; who knew the history of early Christianity could be so fun?
