Wonderful.
Reno Williams is great as Louis. Gets his rhythms down and lifts him up. He distills Armstrong’s humor and warmth without being saccharine. If anything it is light on the racist stuff, but Armstrong tried to keep positive, and so does this. I tend to stick to Pops and avoid Satchmo, even though Louis didn’t, and I think they do to. I am looking forward to seeing if Williams tackles Little Rock in part 6! Great stuff, an embrace more than a tribute. Most importantly, Williams avoids “putting on airs” - Armstrong hated that. My favorite part of the series is actuallythe modern ad in which Louis/Reno encouraging us all to take a supplement that will help our “metabolism” - totally believable Pops enthusiasm!

Reno’s portrayal of Louis Armstrong is nothing short of pure brilliance! He is by far the absolute perfect person for this significant piece of music, American and African American music history!
