A love letter to the early days of jazz. This detailed and entertaining podcast is reminiscent of a graphic novel in an audible format. The actor voicing Louis Armstrong is outstanding! Red beans and ricely yours.

I am loving this story so much. Beautifully acted. I love the stream of consciousness way Pops is telling the story…excellent! My only regret is that I didn’t wait until all 6 episodes were out to start listening—that way I could’ve binged!

Reno Wilson was brilliant as Louis Armstrong’s voice. The story told had me wishing to see this story told on stage. Man! His righteous anger at the disrespect he received, did not diminish his love of life and the jazz, our original Black American creation to share with the world. He was our...Read full review »

I want more shows like this! Classic film stars, rock musicians, past Presidents. This is a great medium to tell their stories as one person shows with the right actors narrating them. In fact I’m going to listen to Pops! a second time.

Reno Wilson’s performance is a complete immersion into the character of Louis Armstrong. The writing, musical choices, and sound design are excellent and supportive of his superlative performance. As a jazz musician and a descendant of four generations of actors, I know of what I speak. Kudos to...Read full review »

The narrator that did this sounded like Louis Armstrong. His manner of speaking and telling a story felt natural. It’s like listening to a guy sit there and tell stories and laugh about life.

I love Armstrong's music. Now I finally learned about his history. Recommend this podcast. The imitation of his voice is a bit much, but it doesn't ruin things.Read full review »

I am really enjoying this podcast. Initially it was a bit off putting when the narrator pronounced some words with a Norwegian accent. The New Orleans accent improved tremendously in each episode but, even if it hadn’t this pod cast deserves 5 stars. The story is put together beautifully, the...Read full review »

Wow I am in-love with this podcast. In a big Jazz phase personally and this is a perfect complement to my “studies”. Louis is portrayed so believably, I feel as though it’s just me and the legend beside a cozy fire. I look forward to listening to this every night as I end my day. Great listen!

Reno Williams is great as Louis. Gets his rhythms down and lifts him up. He distills Armstrong’s humor and warmth without being saccharine. If anything it is light on the racist stuff, but Armstrong tried to keep positive, and so does this. I tend to stick to Pops and avoid Satchmo, even though...Read full review »

Really enjoying this podcast. One complaint: please do not incorporate the character into an advertisement. This is the second podcast in a week that I’ve heard do this. Please don’t trick your listeners into an ad while thinking it’s part of the story. Otherwise, keep up the good work!!
TN_Zak_08 via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 05/09/19
Commercials in the Louis Armstrong voice should be a no go! I get it you got to make some money. But don’t take a character that’s is being played by someone and use it to sell modern appliances. Kills the vibe! In normal voice is understandable. Then let’s get back into story.

Wow... this was just amazing. Reno Wilson as Pops had me lost and wrapped up in the richness and rawness of Storyville, Louisiana! Bravo Reno Wilson! I can’t wait to listen to the next episode. Indeed a Pops himself is proud. Very, very well done.
