That didn’t stop him from bathing, taking advantage of an ingenious albeit bizarre - and not altogether functional - setup. Shortly after his arrival in Valletta, the capital of the Mediterranean nation of Malta, Matthew falls face-first onto his bed. When he's awoken at 5:00 AM, it has nothing to do with jet lag--and it's only by getting very creative that he manages to find a way (and a place) to fall back asleep.  An unforgettable reminder to always think outside the box.

A boulder that's alive. Creatures that come out after dark. In this story within a story, Matthew describes his arrival at a small house in an isolated mountain village in Andalusia (southern Spain) and at his friend's apartment in Palm Springs--both of which present similar nightmarish challenges.
