Bizarre and informative
If you like learning about what might drive someone to exorcise a demon through wordless screaming, murder seven people, or drink a bleaching agent to cure their cancer, this podcast is for you. I heard about this show from a spot on Oh No! Ross and Carrie, and I wasn't disappointed. Javier brings such a warmth to his storytelling, even when talking to people whose opinions are clearly so differs from his own--he really, really tries to explore their beliefs respectfully and listen to their stories with an open heart. Plus, the production quality for an indie podcast is very good--I'm definitely going to start kicking a couple bucks his way every month! Fair warning: like any podcast that delves into true crime, etc., this show can be pretty upsetting. I found the episode about ClO2 being given to kids with autism particularly upsetting. But, Javier is great about giving content warnings at the top of the episodes and provides lengthy show notes, so you can screen easily for what you really might not want to hear. All in all, spectacular job, Javier. I look forward to more from Pretend Radio!Read full review »

My kind of content, of course—ripoffs and grifters. It’s also a charming pod in its own right. Production is neither raw-awful nor commercial-radio slick. It’s nicely homemade—obviously a labour of love. Already great. Looking forward to more.
