The Rolling Stones were at a transitional point in their career. The band had abandoned Psychedelic music and returned to the blues rock influence that fueled their early style. Keith Ricards came up with inventive guitar riffs and Mick Jagger found a more passionate vocal style that could be sneering, angry and resigned. The Stones entered a new phase in their careers. Keyboardist Keith Emerson had a musical vision of incorporating classical music within a rock context and he distinguished is style from other keyboardist and other bands. He first gained public notice back in the 1960s with his popular Psychedelic band The Nice. He then expanded his musical vision and formed Emerson, Lake & Palmer.

The Animals and Them stood out from the other bands of the first wave of The British Invasion. Both had a gritty, bluesy sound and both had powerful lead singers. Eric Burden and Van Morrison led their bands to commercial success and street credibility. They wore the influences from the cities they came from on their sleeves. The Animals were from Birmingham and Them from Belfast, two very tough cities. This is the sound of two hard rocking bands.

This episode profiles a band that were proteges to The Beatles. Badfinger found immediate success with the help of The Beatles and Apple Records. The band gained a higher profile but bad management undermined the band, who were considered successors to The Beatles. Unfortunately, it didn't happen, and subsequent events turned tragic, leaving the band legacy as one of the saddest in rock history.
