“This podcast is excellent. Have you ever wondered why fake accents are so bad in tv and movies? This podcast provides some insight. The con queen, Mare, has a distinctly midwestern accent, but the people she conned have apparently lived in a Manhattan/Hollywood bubble for their entire lives and never actually met someone from Ireland or the Midwest, so she threw a few Irish-sounding words and phrases into her dialogue and - voila! - such an “exotic” accent according to these Hollywood folks.”
