Waiting
I’m waiting for the show to develop beyond the current navel-gazing posture. I really like the premise and think there’s a ton to mine here but it doesn’t seem like we’ve landed on what the show’s format is meant to be. Is it a collection of industry conversations that will add to something cumulatively? It is a story about journalism with information in a journalistic format (whatever that may mean)? After the first episode which made sense to cover the background and to lay a framework for “why am I making this”, having the second episode be a meta discussion with journalists who all clearly agree that journalism is losing ground then musing on why, is a 301 level discussion without any foundation of “what is the going opinion on what journalism is?” “Who decided what journalism was and who decides that now?” “Who is journalism for?” “Why does this moment feel different?” And maybe this is an industry podcast for other journalists so that exploration isn’t needed, but for the populace or at least for me in particular, the purpose of the show is unclear.

First two episodes are gold. Can’t wait to hear what else they dig into. If the first episode is a compass, I expect (and look forward to) more episodes ripping open and exposing the guts of journalism - where we‘ve gone wrong and how we can do better.
