Description
Q: What are the 3 biggest/hardest things required of a podcast booker that the client/guest NEVER knows/sees?
A: Research, follow through, and the cost of networking.
As a podcast booking agent, my role extends far beyond simply scheduling interviews. Here are three critical aspects of my job that often go unnoticed but are crucial to delivering value to my clients:
1. Strategic Research and Alignment: A significant part of my day is dedicated to researching podcasts to ensure they align with my clients’ goals and target demographics. Finding the perfect match is not always straightforward. It involves understanding both the podcast’s audience and the host's openness to my client’s objectives, whether it's sharing expertise or introducing a product.
2. Meticulous Organization and Follow-through: Securing podcast spots is just the beginning. The real challenge lies in managing the timeline. Interviews might be recorded one week but aired months later. Organizing these schedules while creating trackable links, graphics, and sometimes even video content for each episode requires continuous attention and coordination, often spanning several months.
3. Proactive Networking: Each year, I invest over $15,000 attending industry events—not to seek new clients, but to connect with podcast hosts and producers. I will often travel to in-person interviews at my own expense just to be in the same room as a host for 60 min. This networking is crucial. It enhances the quality and relevance of opportunities I can offer my clients.
This behind-the-scenes work might not be visible, but it’s what enables me to provide substantial, sustained value to those I serve. It’s a testament to the dedication required in the podcasting industry, driven by a commitment to bring unparalleled opportunities to my clients.
