Makes an interesting topic dull
This podcast has the usual in-depth research you’d expect from Tortoise (my favourite podcast network) but is severely let down by the presentation. For example, spanning the end of episode 1 and the beginning of episode 2, there is 15 uninterrupted minutes of the ambient room sounds, while the journalist describes the decor of rooms and mutters about how hard it is to find the protagonist. This is not content. The story of Tether is fascinating and Tortoise is the right organisation to investigate it, but I hope that the rest of the series is more tightly edited. At the moment it feels like it’s been Netflixed and being dragged out over an unnecessary amount of time. Although at least a Netflix documentary does a good job of hyping you up for the next episode. At the end of each episode of this podcast, I’m left wondering if all I have to look forward next week to is another half an hour of listening to a journalist wander around various locations looking for someone.

Show sells itself as some sort of investigative reporting exercise but uncovers precisely zero new information about anything. Feel like it was a massive waste of time.

Another podcast from Tortoise that just nails it. Professionally told, yet gripping. This one is a little gonzo, in a good way. Follow the money.
