Entertaining and informative, if not a bit of a sausage fest ...
Overall, the show is an exciting amalgam of entertainment, humor, and information without being pedantic or overly goofy. Albeit a bit of a sausage fest (let's be real -- a lot of the opinions seem to be driven by machoism, and a female perspective would sometimes benefit the discussion), Reel Spoilers is a fun and funny podcast for both casual listeners and regulars. The discussions never get too technical but always include enough facts for the typical cinephile or just a normal person who wants to know more about Transformers 4. Or a good movie. Specifics: The format is loosely structured around three key segments, detailed below. The podcast generally feels spontaneous but polished, which gives a nice balanced mood between chatting with friends and having a set discussion plan. 1. After a few shameless plugs (don't hate, you'd do it, too) is my favorite section, the Box Office Report, in which the hosts often interject little tidbits about each film as they discuss the numbers. This section is a prime example of the loose structure of this podcast. Although the ultimate goal of the segment is evident from its title, the hosts sometimes get into quite interesting or humorous tangents. 2. The actual discussion of the week's film can include both personal opinions and more technical discussions about the movie's quality, whether it's acting performances, cinematography, soundtrack, etc. However, these technical discussions are usually short or simplified, which is ideal for its typical audience with an interest but little expertise in film. The boys share facts about the movie's production, director, actors, and more while having a blast just chatting away. 3. The Video Recovery is a short segment highlighting a film similar to the movie of the week. These range from older to more recent films but are usually more obscure than the featured film. Even for those who never actually watch these suggested movies (such as me), this section is quite fun! Aside from the typical hosts, the podcast makes great use of occasional guest speakers, mainly experts on the specific film, topic, or franchise. These guests always add invaluable information to the discussion but, again, in an entertaining way. The only way this podcast could improve is if I were a host on the show. Just sayin’. (Only kidding, kind of.)Read full review »

These guys do a brilliant job of reviewing all the hot new releases. They take a critical look at a new movie every week (usually trying to focus on the ones that you'll care the most about, aka the box office winners.) They also include an informative list of what movies are dominating at...Read full review »

This seemed like a decent show at first, but I’ve grown to hate it. I listen to movie discussion podcasts all the time, but this one’s pretty bad compared to the others I listen to. Their format for reviewing movies is so tedious. They always uselessly describe the whole movie to you, beat by...Read full review »
