A declining show
I used to love OGWN. It was the first of podcast I paid for. But the quality of the show has severely deteriorated over the past few years. During Brexit and Covid, guests used to be serious analysts who brought information to the table that one can only find in specialist journals. Since Ian and Naomi were replaced by Marie and Alex and Ros have become chairs, the tone of many discussions is lightweight and gossipy, with subjects being treated irreverently. Most of the sources speakers refer to are from the mainstream press, which leads to many discussions becoming little more than paper reviews. The lack of black and global majority speakers is also an issue. The producers are clearly trying to position the show as a liberal-centrist show they hope will become a ‘go to’ news podcast under a Labour government. This is a real shame, as it’s rebellious early years was what made it distinctive.

And laugh out loud funny. Especially love the greeting, it puts a smile on your face and...Read full review »
