“I found some episodes to be "fine," because there was at least one host who knew what he was talking about (there are no women hosts, btw). But if that host doesn't exist on a particular episode, it's really painful (as a classic film buff) to listen to.
The Graduate was Exhibit A here ... We're talking about one of the greatest social satires of all time -- and these guys are complaining that "it didn't have enough funny jokes" ... "Dustin Hoffman seemed too nervous and twitchy for a top student-athlete" ... "Anne Bancroft wasn't old enough" ... And so on ... It was like listening to a bunch of obtuse guys on an art podcast saying they didn't like the Mona Lisa because "I thought the colors were too dark" ... "The picture's frame isn't right" ...
In other words, lots of "focus entirely on trees instead of forest" nitpicking from a trio of guys who seem like they'd rather be watching, I dunno, Superbad. (Which I actually like, but The Graduate is an entirely different film and that is pretty obvious from the opening credit sequence ... The fact that these guys don't "get" this illustrates how obtuse they come across during the podcast.)
Another credibility-shredding observation made during the pod: "I hate Hoffman in everything except The Graduate" ... Meaning his work in Midnight Cowboy, Kramer vrs. Kramer, Tootsie, Rain Man, Little Big Man, Lenny, etc. is all ... bad?
Listening to this is like being stuck in a room with guys who really have no business dissecting movies, attempting to dissect movies for 90 minutes ... No thanks. Would rather listen to Rewatchables or Unspooled, where the hosts generally are smart and/or funny and/or actually know and appreciate great films. I don't have to agree with them all the time. I just need to respect their perspectives/insights.”Read full review »

“I had a lot of fun being a guest on Retro Movie Roundtable, and I'll be begging them to have me back on again. They put on a great show and it's always fun to nerd out about movies with other retro movie fans. Great podcast!”Read full review »

“Good podcast helmed by some guys who clearly are movie fans. Their format is a bit different than your standard which keeps it fresh compared to many.”
