“I would have been thrilled if Ricochet lived up to its billing. Nothing would be more valuable, at this moment in history, than a true center-right podcast. (Or center-left for that matter.) In so much of today’s media, we are exposed to such extreme rhetoric that it has become a real challenge to separate the chaff from the wheat. A center-right discussion, devoid of partisan bickering, that used non-inflammatory language to address the core issues affecting our country would be perfect for out times. Unfortunately, this podcast only occupies a middle ground in the universe of the far right.
One clear sign of an extremist is who they choose to argue against. And these guys always seem to find some fringe, left-wing activist position to counter themselves against. They pit themselves against those that commits violent acts at an anti-Trump rally, or factions with un-abashed pro-Palestine or pro-illegal immigrant stance. A true center-right discussion should be engaging with the center-left, and these guys do anything but that.
The other annoying aspect of this podcast are the commercial segues. I don’t mind podcast advertising. I want broadcasters to be paid and I have purchased multiple products that I learned about while listening to podcasts. But the convoluted advertisement segues used by the host have become infuriating. They may have started as simple groan-worthy puns, but they have grown into exasperating, long-winded tangents. Every time he starts talking, I find myself wondering what product he’s about to shill for. How about just an old fashion “And now a word from our sponsors”?”
