“Daunted by the size, sweep and reputation of RotTK, I have wondered what it was all about. Watched a few Chinese action movies like Red Cliffs to dip a toe in but never cracked the book. This kind soul has made the story irresistible. He gives an excellent digest of the action chapter by chapter with informative asides to clarify parts I’d have skipped over. (All Chinese literature is dense with classical references and earlier history.) Best of all, I enjoy his ‘personable nerd’approach.
