Your guide to the classic
Romance of the Three Kindgoms isn't an easy work to dive into as a Westerner. The beauty of John Zhu's work here is that he explains in detail what warrants clarification, elides the extras, and brings his enthusiasm for the work right to the fore. The result is a knowledgable guide showing you the path through the story. He doesn't explain why the Romance is one of the great works of Chinese literature - he lets you see that for yourself. what a great retelling of this amazing story. I love the asides and contextualising as well as the information on whether characters are worth remembering or not as we move through the story. Keep it up! And thank you!

Finally, an interesting and accessible interpretation of one of history's classics. Just as the creator says in his intro, if you haven't grown up with these characters, the novel can seem like a bunch of indistinguishable names and battles. Be confused no more. Enjoy!Read full review »
