Your guide to the classic
Romance of the Three Kindgoms isn't an easy work to dive into as a Westerner. The beauty of John Zhu's work here is that he explains in detail what warrants clarification, elides the extras, and brings his enthusiasm for the work right to the fore. The result is a knowledgable guide showing you the path through the story. He doesn't explain why the Romance is one of the great works of Chinese literature - he lets you see that for yourself.
