This is such an enjoyable podcast about classic movie actresses. Really well researched, interesting insights and reflections, witty and funny. And most of all empowering, focusing on these women as artists and craftspeople and what they created, rather than the gossip about their personal lives....Read full review »

Love the theme of sisterhood and unwavering self-respect in the face of misogyny. Each new production is more polished than the last while all the stories are compelling. Flesh them out and you have a Hollywood period piece to rival the pre-code pictures the creator discusses in the other...Read full review »

Could use just a touch of editing when she stumbles while reading (as we all do!). It’d be great if the podcast was a bit more polished in terms of the audio. Voice is great and content very interesting. Does go a little too long in quoting scenes from movies.

... to hanging out at the Automat with Joan Crawford and Jean Dixon in Sadie McKee. When it comes to women’s pictures, Dr McGurk knows her onions. With each reappraisal of this criminally neglected genre, a sass mouth gets her sables!

Fantastic podcast on the lives and careers of women in Hollywood. The creator provides a real, entertaining and respectful portrait of the opportunities and challenges these women faced. Well worth a listen!

Love the focus on obscure titles. Good research but too much plot summary. Veers into questionable commentary at times. The clever tone also wears thin. Still, better than most classic Hollywood podcasts.

This woman knows what she’s talking about and it absolutely addictive. I’m learning about stars that go deep. She’s got a dry since of humor that can wiz past some of our heads. As an 8 year old, after watching Sunset Boulevard. I had so many questions Even though my father worked for the...Read full review »

Such an interesting podcast on actresses with very poignant insights, waving the flag on these brilliant women, and reminding us on history not to be forgotten. Thank you.

Each episode is wonderfully researched and has fascinating details. I would love it a whole lot more if the presenter didn’t sound like she was just reading an essay out loud. It would be so much better if she sounded engaged in the topic she was presenting. Would also love it if she created a...Read full review »

Dr Megan McGurk is wonderfully knowledgeable about the subject matter she covers. She shows the importance of women’s pictures and how they shaped the Golden Era of film and beyond.
