Thoughtful stories about American society
I'm a huge podcast listener. So I'm really excited that veteran radio producer and teacher at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke, John Biewen, has started a new podcast called Scene on Radio. The first two episodes look at sports and how it can (or cannot) act as a bridge between race and class in America. Are sports "good for us"? Can they bring us together? The first episode looks at the winning Cardinals baseball team in St. Louis, post-Ferguson. The second episode features teammates on a girls high school basketball team. Very thoughtful, funny (nice Reagan impression!), and innovative. Love how the ending invites the listener to question the narrative we hear—and to create our own.Read full review »

Fascinating - I listen to every episode twice. The podcast we need for these times.

I came across this because of Ep 31 and on, on race, and the origin of concepts of race, and the white race. I've listened to probaly hundreds of podcast episodes, but this is the first time I've been moved to write a review. These definitely are worth your time.Read full review »
