“I've been listening to this podcast for about a year (not sure why, lol) and find very little information I can really use.
Even the Scriptcast podcast put out by college students is more inspiring (certainly less depressing).
John August tries to be helpful, but mostly this is self-indulgent prattling about these lucky screenwriters' own lives.
Very little talk about story and its importance in film. I guess it's supposed to be about "things screenwriters are interested in," whatever that means, and whoever that might be because, as they tell us constantly, there are so very few screenwriters who have careers. Craig Mazin is overbearing and insufferable. He's constantly laughing at his own jokes (I've worked in rooms and there's always a guy like Mazin) and after all the time I've listened, I've yet to hear this comedy writer say anything remotely funny. He's definitely the vulgarian of the two. August has a lovely disposition and while he seems overly involved with apps for his I-phone, he, at least, conveys humanity as he patiently puts up with his less eloquent partner. Mazin's idea of a witty rejoinder to his critics is along the order of, "Hey bro, you just don't get it."
This podcast is only valuable to the aspiring screenwriter who wants his or her dreams to be shattered on a quarterly basis.
I probably won't be listening much longer.
