Blockchain Privacy vs. Speed
The podcast iterated on an important point about focusing development efforts on growing a network’s speed; A faster product enables startups to capture the current market and expand the industry’s overall market share. For instance, the podcast highlighted the competition between Google vs. Yahoo and how Google grew their market share in search since their technology was significantly faster than Yahoos. While Aptos is faster than Ethereum, it was unclear how they generate revenue. They regard their blockchain network as a "public good," similar to the internet, and aim to generate revenue by developing supplementary tools. This approach could undermine Blockchain’s appeal, as a key motivation for users is to avoid having their identity monetized and preserve privacy. It would have been insightful to hear more on the tradeoffs between speed and privacy as it relates to layer 1 networks.Read full review »
