“An interesting and intelligent podcast.
She, like many other radicalised youths, may have been shocked to realise atrocities were being committed on behalf of their cause…. But thinking that after you’ve lost everything you were fighting for, you can just say sorry and start anew as if nothing ever happened is naive at best.
As to who to blame for the radicalisation? A lot of teenagers are very secretive and won’t listen to any grown-up advice, so I doubt we will ever know for sure.
Blaming the various authorities for everything is wrong. After listening to some of the interviewees responses, I’m tended to think some of them knew more than they were actually letting on.
Unfortunately, some decisions in life can result in so much resentment and hate that the follies of youth or hindsight can’t be forgiven (or forgotten) by just saying sorry. I seriously doubt many would be returning if they had been successful in forming their new caliphate.
I wish her and her family well, but I doubt she/they will be treated kindly anywhere.”
