Unfulfilled
I stumbled on this podcast. I was intrigued by the title. Shattered: Black Friday. Somehow it made me think of happy thoughts reminding me of the Rolling Stones' song of the same name with the added benefit of an allusion to Fade to Black. Wrong. The story of three missing boys unfolds and it is unsettling. At the end of each podcast a phone number of the main detective in charge of this investigation is given requesting that if any listeners have any information about the missing boys, to call into his direct phone line. So the this message confirms that there is no closure to this "mystery". Something to wrap it all up. But that's not how life works. In fact this is wonderful storytelling with an attempt at balance. Imagine a journalist actually providing the views of multiple personalities from various sides of a tragedy that leads to individuals, families, local land distant communities and through the telling of this story, listeners to be shattered. The balance and the drive to allow the suspected villain and his supporters to express their views is admirable. I found the sensitivity to intruding the Amish community particularly appropriate. Journalism that covers "all" sides of the story is so not the current standard. Interestingly the interview with Mr. Skelton reveals even his inability to verbalize what it is that others are accusing him of. That speaks volumes. Despite the lack of "closure" this story reveals that human foibles can lead to large scale tragedy. The fulfillment comes not in "closure" but in completeness.Read full review »

That our government officials have the audacity to rationalize what they did to a 14 yr old child makes me ill. Give it a listen and see if you go through the same...Read full review »

I love this podcast. The host is awesome and I really enjoy the variety of interviews he does. I find myself getting so frustrated while listening because the story is so insane. Highly recommend this podcast!
