This is a clever, easy to follow podcast by two long-time Beijing residents. It tries, mostly successfully to balance research-based with more popular and especially journalist takes on contemporary China. While it is worth listening to it adheres a little too closely to American liberal-internationalist takes and embeds very conventional American assumptions on China, social science and the world. These ideas dominate the construction and narrative of every episode. It is, at times, maddeningly America-centric, and the hosts' ignorance of the rest of Asia and their Beijing-centric views of China sometimes get in the way.
