Best culture podcast
A weekly high point. The Slate Culture Gabfest's regular hosts Dana Stevens, Stephen Metcalf and Julia Turner always seem to be ahead of the curve in discussing our most absorbing cultural preoccupations from one week to the next. The Gabfest has been going since 2008 and in that time has grown a dedicated international audience who appreciate their eloquence, expertise, wit and sheer fluency (they literally never say "Er…"). Other contributors regularly turn up on the show but the combination of Dana, Stephen and Julia has sustained a remarkable synergy that both endears them to the listener and makes for a sparky, sometimes sparring but ultimately warm-hearted demonstration of intellectual cut and thrust. Like so many shows of its kind, the hosts seem to derive such joy and satisfaction from skewering other people’s work.
