So Much Negativity
Like so many shows of its kind, the hosts seem to derive such joy and satisfaction from skewering other people’s work. Obviously the reasons I listen to these types of shows might differ from others, but I mostly listen to find new and exciting content to watch, read, and listen to. More often than not, though, it just goes on and on about every aspect they did not care for in a particular piece. I understand that it can sometimes be entertaining to listen to people disparage a movie or series that you also dislike and do so in a more articulate way that I could. But it generally gets old quite quickly. I wish this show was guided by the new content they actually liked and recommended rather than just covering anything that is new. There is such a tremendous amount of content to sift through these days, it can be difficult to find something of value to enjoy. I feel like I’ve gained absolutely nothing of value by listening to three people stumble over each other to insert their fiercest critique of The Gilded Age. I, too, don’t care for The Gilded Age so this is not about being upset that something I love was spoken about negatively. I just feel the show could spend that time highlighting something they LOVE so people can seek out their new favorite thing. There’s nothing wrong with leading with positivity. It might not be as fun for the hosts, but it’s far more useful to the listeners. In my opinion.

I adore this podcast - I always say to people it’s like attending a dinner party with your most articulate, intellectually curious friends. Sometimes their guest hosts are a little uneven, though just as smart. They had a guest host, for instance, who before prepping for the show hadn’t watched...Read full review »
