Above average; well worth a listen
I just recently started listening to this podcast and have been slowly making my way through the episodes. Things I like about the podcast: Dana Stevens. She's warm, intelligent, and funny; her conversational tone is remarkably free of pretension, but she still manages to talk about the films in ways that are both smart and perceptive. I like the basic idea of the podcast -- that is, it's nice to at least occasionally here a review in which the reviewer doesn't feel it necessary to tiptoe around the facts of the film. Things I don't like: While I am a fan of Stevens, her partners have ranged from pretty good to not so good. I wonder whether it might be possible to build a better chemistry if the show adopted a regular co-host. The show tends to review big "box office" films at the expense of smaller, indy movies; it might be nice if they could broaden their focus a bit. I'm not sure, for example, that we need anyone to tell us that INVICTUS is a crappy movie.Read full review »

This is not a podcast for people who enjoy movies. Most of the time Dana and her guest will ignore crucial plot points clearly lined out in the film in order to strengthen their dislike of the film. I've never heard her give a positive review and she doesn't seem to enjoy movies. I...Read full review »
