“Matty, singer-songwriter and guitar slinger with one of Liverpool’s musical outfits The Shipbuilders (get on their incredible album ‘Spring Tide’ NOW, smell that sea air and the whiff of gun smoke, amigos!) and I became friends recently in the process of mourning the loss of a mutual friend, someone who was something of a spirit guide to both of us. Still is and always will be. Not only have I been fortunate to discover The Shipbuilders music, I’ve also stumbled upon Matty’s other great creation, Club Shipwrecked, hopped on board meself and am looking forward to contributing. Check it out.
So Long, Too Long is hilarious. Think a Scouse version of The Inbetweeners who start a band and, to their amazement, it takes off. Despite themselves. It’s also incredibly profound at times:
“As long as you’ve got someone smilin’ to the left, to the right of yer, yer alright, y’know.”
A group of young, nice, lads having a daft laugh. Rings so many bells for a fellow music-obsessed, girl-intrigued-but useless, free-spirited, football sock wearing child of the 80s/90s. My Jimmy Saville Experience equivalent was the framed, signed photo of Rolf Harris I had on my wall for years. Pre-knowledge.
Real life. Real laughs. Innocence. Naivety. Stupidity. Surreal alter egos. Bin bags.
Get on it, you won’t be disappointed.
