“Still shilling for the big studios I see. Just like back in the old BBC days, superhero movies are reviewed like they are a recently discovered director’s cut of Citizen Kane. (I can still recall how Kermode discovered he liked 3-D after all when Scorsese made one!) This week – of course-the new Paddington movie (Paddington Bear!) got a great review, because, surprise surprise there was an interview with one of the stars. They have to be so sad about political developments across the water as well, from the comfort of their well appointed pads. Of course, every week some obscure foreign language movie will be thrown in to show that Kermode is still a serious film critic after all, but next week they’ll be back to telling us what a serious work of art at the latest flying men in tights opus is.”
