Always loved these two, so signed up for the paid option as it promised “so many extra takes”. Three weekly shows recently became two. This week, two became one, and the one is a repeat (framed as a highlight show). Yet the subscription cost remains constant. Really disappointed. Have cancelled...Read full review »

I cannot abide these two smug, faux-deprecating arrogant elitists. They’re a precise example of why the end of the BBC is sadly quite inevitable.

There is just something comforting about listening to Mark and Simon and their witterings that makes everything else in life bearable, oh and there’s movie stuff in it too 😉 The best movie pod cast, if not the best pod cast ever 😊

I love Mark as a film critic, particularly respect his views on horror films…… it’s like hoping you’re parents will get back together after a divorce, deep down you know it’s not going to happen, but can’t we go back to how things were before, please? it really was quite magical

I used to love Kermode and Mayo on Radio 5Live and wondered what they would say about Wicked Little Letters. I had just seen it in the cinema and can attest that it is comfortably the most tiresome and least funny comedy I have ever seen on the big screen. Mark loved it and even laughed out loud....Read full review »

Once you skip past the insufferable ads, which appear to be increasing in length(!!!), then I do enjoy the show. I have no intention of subscribing, so if the ads rise exponentially, I’m out.

Fun
Mark has some fascinating insights and Simon’s jokes are appreciated as well. Not always the most eloquent or analysing reviews (one can read Roger Ebert.com for that) but nonetheless a fun show to listen to and maybe gain a second opinion on recent releases

A great example of the value of the BBC. Someone told these two that being unrefined to share their opinions would be a winner. It actually makes you realise how irrelevant and annoying they are. And now they think we’ll paying half the cost of the licence fee just to listen to their pod…no thanks!!

How much good there could be in Mark Kermode’s view of film. Wasted in equal parts by this ham fisted show and Mayo, who is completely unlistenable unless you are a middle England swamp creature. Has anyone ever been less funny
keegan's elbow via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 02/17/24
Is it about film reviews or just two middle age guys bantering? Entertaining, many inside jokes over time have developed Worthy to listen to as a female smoking cigars, back in clergy corner or during a gym Workout . They cover movies , mark has a bent toward Horror and documentaries. But...Read full review »

Do they know that in some cases the reason you cannot watch tv output outside of that country is that you do not contribute to that output. The reason why you cannot watch the BBC i player outside of the UK is because those that do not live in the uk do not pay the licence fee. Absolutely...Read full review »

I’m a heritage listener having been enjoying their Wittering since the Dead or Alive days in the mid-90’s. They are every bit as good to listen to as they have ever been. And they seem more comfortable since their departure from Auntie too. If you love film, music, jokes, and nonsense, click...Read full review »

This is still a big, warm hug of a show - now actually three shows - every week, and I for one welcome the freedom to explore topics and opinions that were off limits in the BBC days. Which is no slight - I loved that show, too. The interviews are perfectly judged as ever, the guests top-drawer,...Read full review »

This was a must listen to pod when they were on the BBC and their personal political leanings were reined in by their employer. Now the handbrake is off they are both smug and insufferable, Kermode shoehorning his TDS into almost every review has worn me down to the point I can no longer listen...Read full review »

Very happy to be a subscriber to this podcast from the beginning. I’m an LTL and vanguardista. Love the balance of film reviews and more general topics. The bonus material for paid subscribers is an excellent continuation of the core podcast. Up with the usual and down with anything less than...Read full review »

I have listened to these two for well over 20 yrs but no longer the show has lost all its sparkle in its new commercial guise.

LTL and now a vanguardista. It’s new but still the same. I’m happy they’re back. It took me almost a year to stop expecting the Christmas bells on the the Take open g jingle and now they’re back!! Yay :-)

Been listening for more than 15 years, but charging £5 a month, shortening the core show and removing all that was good about the show means I’ll be looking for another film podcast. Money grab, simply not with it.
RolySavage via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 12/22/23
It’s Christmas 2023. And for the first time, the weekly free episode is now behind a paywall. So much for Mark “I’m a proud socialist” Kermode, who has completely sold out. There is a famous Bill Hicks line to sum this up, which I’m sure Mark is familiar with, but is too rude to leave in a review.
Lynddion via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 12/22/23
You are embarrassing. It’s movie reviews . Your not inventing anything . £5 a month . Sorry millionaires I’d rather set my money I don’t have on fire . Your shameful
Neilleeds via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 12/04/23
I know, I know. Everyone needs to make a buck, but as a LTL of over 15 years, the show feels like it has been gutted in order to drive listeners towards a subscription. I understand the idea of doing deep dives and extended interviews in the bonus episodes. Even reviews of more obscure...Read full review »

MTL and proud Vanguardista here. Love the show Steve and I think it gets better and better. Always gets my Friday off to a great start. Best film podcast around, bar none. Have been a listener since I was 13 back on BBC, and I’m now 25 - does that make me an LTL or a MTL ? What are the negative reviewers listening to? They’re either written by Artificial Intelligence or Low Intelligence! These guys are always a great listen. Just don’t listen if you don’t like, bog off with your pointless reviews…

Not enough movie chat these days for me. The reviews seem more of an afterthought now. Shame…

This podcast has turned into two people who love the sound of their own voice, discussing banal subjects with loose references to old directors. Really poor.

This is my favourite podcast to listen to whether it’s Mark and Simon or the super subs over the summer including Rhiannon, Anna, Robbie and James. Not sure what to make of this anymore. Sorry to be another of the ‘I used to love this podcast when it was on the BBC’ brigade but it just seems to have lost something. I used to love these pair, they were like a pair of comfortable old slippers, but near the end of the BBC run (which I was forced to pay for) Kermode’s political leanings were slipped into the show more and more, which was the start of the decline. I have listened to Kermode and Mayo for more than a decade, probably closing in on two decades, but I have to express my disappointment about finding out you only ship your merch to the USA and Australia. The level of spite in some of these 1 star reviews is absolutely hilarious. Simon Mayo also does a non-BBC affiliated book review podcast, if you want to try and sink that as well fellas. Anyway, I don’t pay for this, I just get the free show…I enjoy listening to it, it’s free, so 5 stars from me.

I loved the BBC show. It evolved organically over time. Now they’ve tried to bottle the lightning ( and put it into several bottles, only one of which is subscription free) and it has lost the magic.
