“"Spartacus" is one of my favorite shows, and - as with "Game of Thrones" and "Breaking Bad" - I like listening to podcast wrap-ups of all the episodes. This podcast hosted by Spicy Mari and Sean (?) is okay enough. They're enthusiastic, and they try to cover the important beats or details of each episode. But I also find that the hosts are sometimes kind of dumb or oblivious when it comes to what they're discussing. I first noticed it in something minor - last week, when for some reason showhost Spicy could not pronounce the simple name of one of this series' major characters (if not one of *history's* major characters) no matter how long she tried. But then in the latest podcast, for "Blood Brothers?" - both Sean and Spicy were strangely confused as to why Spartacus ordered that the Roman corpses be salted/preserved. I say strangely confused because the reason for Spartacus doing this was clearly explained in dialogue! (I think Sparty himself explained it, if not one of the other rebels.) I know this is not the easiest show to understand immediately upon first viewing, mostly because of the stylized speech its characters use. But if you're going to host a podcast on a show, then you really need to do whatever it takes - whether it's watching episodes twice, and/or familiarizing yourself with character names.”Read full review »
