Much Needed Voices!
I initially heard this podcast get name dropped on Isometric, and I finally started listening when I saw the Leigh Alexander episode which I loved, but it was the "Blackademics 101" episode that really sold me. It was SO UNBELIEVABLY AMAZING!! I studied Gender, Women's, & Sexuality Studies for my undergrad degree and always wanted to have an intersectional feminist discussion about video games and identity with my peers but no one in the major/department knows much about games. As I start thinking about grad school, I was so overwhelmingly excited to hear that these discussions are happening, and that there are conversations about games in academia going on that aren't led by straight white men exclusively. Hearing the brilliant Dr. Russworm and Dr. Gray speak was amazing and challenged some of my own biases as a white woman (which I appreciate as an ally always seeking to improve my allyship). These are the kinds of challenging conversations that I want to find and experience as I go into my next level of education and it gives me hope that these discussions are happening and that podcasts like Spawn On Me exist to facilitate them. Thank you for providing a respectful space for voices that are typically excluded from conversations about games to be heard. I can't wait to hear more!Read full review »
