“Spro and Lee have a winning formula here. The Academy Awards have long been a pompous affair for socialites and politically motivated gestures. More often than not I have watched my favorite performances and films being passed over despite their brilliance. Spro and Lee, having next to zero clout in the industry, are above (or beneath, if you like) such pompous and greedy motives. Their reviews of film are steeped in the technical savoy of the makers, the passion of the performers, and the emotions evoked in these two charming podcasters. It is a joy to listen to them unpack the work of the nominees and justify the revocation of the Oscar in favor of often more deserving recipients. It's just a lot of fun to listen to. “Intelligent and sometimes silly look at some of Oscar history’s biggest boners. Hosts are knowledgeable, prepared, and even occasionally funny. Apparently they’re old high school friends. Anyway, they do their homework and put on a good show. Best episodes are often the ones with guests, though.”
