“Star Trek The Next Conversation is a Trek podcast where one host seems to genuinely love and be enthusiastic about Trek, and the other host is named Matt Mira. After finishing season 3 of Picard, I wanted to rewatch TNG for the millionth time, but to change it up I decided to listen to a podcast while watching. TNC seemed an interesting take, in that it was two tv writers of a show I enjoyed, The Goldbergs, going through the series. So I dove into the pod, and since May of 2023 I have literally ignored all of my actually good podcasts in order to mainline this one so that I could catch up. So 9 months later I finally have. My overall feelings about the podcast, and by extension the hosts Matt and Andy, are complicated. It kind of reminds me of this book I read, “Hostage Terrorists, Terrorist Hostage” where a group of hostages in Helsinki, Sweden, began to sympathize with their captors. I should have stopped listening to TNC a long time ago when the constant bumbling antics of both hosts did not stop, even though years of podcasting should have made them more experienced. And yet my mental pathways have become accustomed to them. Their inputs eventually are anticipated, and even missed when absent. Anyways, now that I’ve caught up with the pod, I can finally start yelling at them in real time instead of purely to the void of time.”
