SO GOOD!!!
I’m a grad student from Portland, and my current research/creative practice investigates gender dynamics in contemporary rock music culture. That being the case, I’m thrilled that this podcast goes beyond the basic history of riot grrrl and engages with the movement on a deeper, more theoretical level. Fabi expertly locates riot grrrl within its greater activist context and critiques it against other efforts for justice, highlighting the joys and struggles of BIPOC and queer musicians whose contributions and experiences were often overlooked in favor of issues facing white, heterosexual women. Fabi and guests have such insightful things to say about riot grrrl’s lasting impact as a sociopolitical force and show how creative projects, like music and self-publishing, can generate both personal AND collective power. I can’t wait for more!!

Well researched, good interviews and that fabulous music we all enjoyed in the late late 80’s to 90’s. I remember these grrl bands and had the privilege of seeing most of them in Portland. Probably at Satyricon. Thank you for such a great podcast.

This podcast is perfection! Well researched and well narrated. The ideal balance between nostalgia critique and looking to the future. I hope it will inspire others the way all these artists inspired me. The very best of the PNW.
