This is a podcast about the American travellers the rest of the world finds repugnant. The entitlement and self absorption of those involved in this story is unbearable to listen to. I wish they had included literally any meaningful analysis of neocolonial travel; ie what it means for rich white...Read full review »

Fins this podcast extremely interesting. Just couldn’t stop listening. A beautiful story about a beautiful human being. You done a beautiful work to tell to us. A felt Justine so close and almost alive during a whole story.Thank you and hope more to come. Can’t wait.

Look, I have empathy for Justin’s loved ones but I’m not sure this story is podcast worthy. Justin was a grown man who refused to grow up and accept the inevitable responsibilities of adulthood. He took way too many risks and sadly I believe that led to his demise. I believe his death was an...Read full review »

Status Untraced is an absolute gem of a podcast that stands out not just for its gripping content, but for the way it captivates the listener from the very first episode. Whether you’re a fan of true crime, mysteries, or simply well-researched investigative journalism, this podcast delivers on...Read full review »

just finished listening to Status: Untraced, and I have to say, this story was absolutely fascinating! The way you pieced everything together was masterful, keeping me hooked from start to finish. The suspense, the depth of the characters, and the mystery surrounding the storyline were...Read full review »

This was an interesting podcast about an interesting if flawed human. Clearly a lot of effort went into this piece. What completely took me out of the story was that nearly every time a woman is referenced who was not Justin’s mom, she is referenced as a “girl.” Men are only referenced as boys...Read full review »

Do yourself a favour, don’t listen. I can accept and be saddened by the loss of a life. However, I can equally not care about said person. The actual quality of the podcast is amazing, the hosting, and investigation is at a high tenderfoot standard (but certainly no Up and Vanished). But the...Read full review »

Sorry - as Up and Vanished once produced good podcast series Now I suspect they set out to to produce a long long series - and irrespective of the story - they will stretch it out to make sure they at least get to double figures This story is so overblown that I listened only to the first 3...Read full review »

As a travel writer myself, I remember very clearly when Justin went missing and all of the efforts that ensued in a bid to try and find him. So when I realised, all these years later, that this podcast was about that mysterious disappearance, I was excited to listen. As with all podcasts of this...Read full review »

Lost in the valley of death is well written and dives deeper into his childhood.

The research, production and narration was well done. But I found it hard to get through the entire podcast with such an unlikeable main subject. There is nothing the least bit heroic about how this guy lived his life. He was a narcissistic navel gazer who caused so many people a lot of pain and...Read full review »

Producers voice entitled and full of western privilege. I was on the side of the so called mafia tracker. Utterly ridiculous to label an Indian man with a totally different life experience a narcissist. Deluded and full of contempt, lack of understanding of different cultures lifestyles.
sasfran via Apple Podcasts · Great Britain · 08/02/24
I have mixed feelings about this podcast. On one hand it’s compelling, well told, very well produced, and the host is so earnest and genuine. However, the subject of the story is extremely unlikable and the host’s idolization of him is disconcerting. It is absolutely tragic that Justin was very...Read full review »

I really liked this podcast but not because of the subject of it. I lived this lifestyle a decade before Justin did and came across so many men like him. Well made podcast, but there is nothing strange about his disappearance. “Soul searching” does not include dealing and flaunting drugs in a third world country where you stand out like a sore thumb. I hoped they would’ve explored more of Justin’s mental health crises rather than trying to catch a...Read full review »

This “spiritual” guy lived for social media clicks. Neither an interesting person nor an interesting story. The admiration of the host is kinda sad. So many stories out there worthy of being told.

If you want to spend hours of your time listening to a story that brings no new details to a missing person case then this is the podcast for you. Just because he died in an exotic place doesn’t mean there is a big mystery to solve. He was a mentally ill drug dealer who fantasized about suicide.
Wienerpants via Apple Podcasts · United States of America · 07/19/24
For all the time and effort that went into producing this podcast, you have to think they’d at least try to discuss what seems to be the obvious narrative here: a mentally-ill, narcissistic American man went on a voyage of “self-discovery” (that was really a social-media powered ego trip) and...Read full review »

Appreciated the podcast and thought it was very well done. I think the host mentions somewhere that he’s not an investigative journalist, but I think he told the story like a professional. He remained objective, respectful, and fair (as opposed to some other Tenderfoot shows).

I really enjoyed most of it. There were some dull parts toward the end that felt like they existed solely to round out the episode total to 10 yet I was engaged nonetheless.
