Like a door opening to a new world
Having long enjoyed classical music sporadically and without really wanting to do more than enjoy it, I found the way this show introduces analysis of classical pieces to be like a hidden gate opening - to a whole universe of musical devices, of keys, motifs, rhythms, themes and harmonies. It’s all interlaced with references to the personalities of composers, to historical and political frameworks and philosophical correspondences. All accessible without a degree in music theory. All delivered with a passion, personality and dedication that makes the music come alive down through the centuries. One of my favourite podcasts - I was hooked after only a few episodes.

One of the best podcasts out there. The production quality and content quality is as high as it gets. This podcast easily competes with Dr. Greenberg's excellent Great Courses series.Read full review »
