Stop, Hack, and Review: The podcast that pulled me down the hole of RPG design
I heard of SHR from Protean City Comics (it’s a terrific Masks AP go listen to it), and while I had been vaguely into modding games and had the idea of writing some, I hadn’t listened to any related podcasts. Since these were hosts I was already familiar with I gave it a shot, and suddenly I was 4 episodes in, down a deep dark hole of game design. Brandon and James have insightful and interesting perspectives into game design, pointing out new things I’d never considered with every episode. They’re willing to share the knowledge they already had, discuss new ideas amongst themselves or with guests, and most importantly, learn “live” on the spot. The fact that they’re willing to openly admit gaps in their knowledge and show is their learning process as they go through it really draws me to this wonderful show. It’s also just a two hosts having a good time and a great way to learn about a variety of games that are out there. If you’re at all curious by the concept of hacking RPGs or unique design ideas, check it out. You wont be disappointed.

SH&R has quickly become one of my must-listen podcasts over the last few months. Brandon and James have great chemistry as hosts and friends, and it’s very cool to listen to them work on their games live, give each other feedback and ideas, and talk about the tabletop industry in general....Read full review »
