Fantastic podcast that unpacks game design and game running in a very approachable way. Brandon and James are knowledgeable, genuine and open about their process in a refreshingly honest way. If you are into indi games you should give it a listen.

...and now I’m here. The audio quality has improved since the earliest episodes, but the thought-provoking and inspiring content has consistently been of A+ quality since the beginning. Brandon and James are passionate about rolling up your sleeves and getting under the hood of roleplaying games....Read full review »

SH&R has quickly become one of my must-listen podcasts over the last few months. Listening to this podcast always makes me want to go write games, which is probably the greatest compliment I can give. The show is fun and encouraging, and I always have a few episodes downloaded in case I’m in need of inspiration for my own projects.

They do a great job just kind of... talking about games. And if you want a semi-professional, semi-personal, semi-stream-of-consciousness look at what makes certain games tick and how to take that and apply that to your other games, this is where you should go! And, sure, that might not sound...Read full review »

I heard of SHR from Protean City Comics (it’s a terrific Masks AP go listen to it), and while I had been vaguely into modding games and had the idea of writing some, I hadn’t listened to any related podcasts. Since these were hosts I was already familiar with I gave it a shot, and suddenly I was...Read full review »

Never had I ever thought too hard about the development process of games before listening to this podcast. Games just get made and end up on shelves somewhere, right? Wrong!! Listening to Brandon and James you’ll learn about how games can change drastically before you ever see them! It’s a BIG...Read full review »

Each episode almost always ends with an actionable...Read full review »

I am a wannabe rpg designer. So I was thrilled to find this podcast. It is the most substantive discussion of rpg design & play that I have encountered since the (discontinued) Narrative Control podcast by Sean Nittner. I highly recommend it to aspiring game designers & rpg fans in general.

My biggest complaint about podcasts are bad audio quality and boring personalities, these guys are niether of these! Excellent sound and engaging conversations!

James and Brandon are hilarious and it really makes you want to get a group together and play but not too technical to fly over the heads of people like myself who have only played a few times.
