A screenwriter’s perspective
As someone who was “taught” character and story by academy award winners and best selling authors, I can say I’ve learned far more listening to this podcast. It’s not enough to know how to do something, but why you should do something. Working in LA, I’ve learned “how” to create stories (mostly in screenplay context) but never why. After I was saved by the Grace of God, I realized I lacked the why. My eyes were instantly opened, and I was able to understand the flaws and triumphs of the films I watched and the books I read. When I watch a film review on YouTube, for instance, I’m unable to digest the critique because it’s overwhelmed by the reviewer’s inability to define what is good, beautiful, true, or evil, ugly, and false. God gives us those answers through His Word. We don’t have to guess what makes a story beautiful or a character lovable. SASF is a great example of what submission to God’s Word can do for you as an artist and creator. It’s refreshing to hear the truth in a podcast. And yes, I can actually defend what truth means because I’m in Christ and I believe His Word. This podcast should be on the top of the list for anyone who wants to create stories (or raise children.)

I am a young writer, and I really enjoy the comments and insights from these two men on writing and reading, but it’s very hard to get past Nate’s condescending attitude. The tone is very noticeably pompous…and comparing himself to Lewis??:/ I do really enjoy Brian though, and I also LOVE his...Read full review »

As a new mom and English major who plans to homeschool this has already been a great resource for me to reflect on learning and teaching in my own home. Even though I taught middle school English for years, I have not felt equipped to foster a love of reading in my own kids. This is definitely...Read full review »
