I’m a classical musician and heard about this podcast through another podcast. Strong Songs is brilliant, interesting and addictive listening. Kirk Hamilton is a genuine, clever and lovely musician and host. I can’t recommend this enough.

I use another podcast app, and I downloaded Apple Podcasts just to leave a review for this show. That’s how much I love it! Kirk brings so much joy and enthusiasm to his music analysis, it is absolutely infectious. He makes me hear some of my favorite songs in a new and exciting way. And while...Read full review »

A truly brilliant podcast, very interesting and well produced. Thanks very much 👍

Kirk does such an amazing job with this podcast. The mark of a truly effective educator is not to simply state facts or point out salient features (this chord over that bass-line, etc) and then move on — looking at you, Rick B. — without regard for whether and how naive listeners will be able to...Read full review »

I started with the episode “In Your Eyes” by Peter Gabriel. I loved it and was moved to tears.

Kirk is such a master of breaking down that makes a song great. Episodes of this show have made me adore songs that I’ve never heard of in genres I’ve never liked. By breaking down the masterful work that the artists put into each song, you really start to appreciate the craft in a way that...Read full review »

Come for the song; stay for Kirk Hamilton’s contagious enthusiasm, eloquent narrative, educational deconstruction, and masterful reconstruction!

I started listening to Strong Songs in one of the Covid years, it was a recommendation by my podcast algorithm, and during those lock downs I needed something more then watching TV and lunch time drinking. The first episode I heard was a mail bag episode, I remember how I was cutting the lawn...Read full review »

I found this show by way of the podcast Twenty Thousand Hertz on their Dies Irae episode. And this is just the kind of podcast that I love to listen to. There’s so much good music, and Kirk is such a fun host- smart and playful. All of the listener Q&A episodes are very instructive, it’s so...Read full review »

Your TOTK episode just left me inconsolable, it’s exactly what I needed 6 months after the game. Thank you for the reminder of how incredible that game was to experience for the first time. A truly great podcast. Presented in a way that is both accessible and informative - and at a level that is understandable for someone who doesn’t play an instrument, while still being super entertaining and interesting for a semi-professional musician of 20 years. This is a gift for understanding what it is about a well known song that makes it work, be it melody, harmony, lyric, rhythm, arrangement, groove, you name it. I love this podcast so much. As a very out of practice musician it’s so fun brushing up on all the things I’ve forgotten but most importantly to share in the passion of the host. Every episode fills me with joy and helps me to reconnect with what originally got me into music as a child.

I love music and love analysis of things, so analysis of great songs does appeal. This show delivers commentary on a broad range of songs. I find the style of delivery is at times a bit verbose.
