Intellectually Bankrupt
This podcast is hosted by two people who cannot seem to decide whether or not they disbelieve every conspiracy theory, whether they believe them all, or whether they are just a John Doe trying to look at the facts and figure things out. The utterly non-committal nature of almost everything this show does results in a jumbled mess of "facts"--which the hosts get wrong a startling amount of the time and which are presented with unnnecessary and uninteresting editorializing--framed by utterly ridiculous attempts to tie it all together with a neat bow. It is clearly the intent of the podcast to allow the listners to make up their own minds, as the hosts will often act impartial and will rarely, if ever, state agreement with a certain conspiracy theory. Yet the hosts' rhetoric--often composed of cliche conspiracy theorist catchphrases like "just asking questions" and "official story"--serves only to cast doubt upon anything that isn't the conspiracy theory. The format itself leads the listeners--those who haven't made up their minds--by the nose to the conclusion that the conspiracy is at the very least likely, if not the most probable. Add to this that the hosts strive to seem fairly unbiased, yet I get the strange impression they buy into almost all of the conspiracies they present. My biggest problem with this podcast is its disingenuous impartiality. For those who have already made up their minds, this doesn't matter. But when people want to find out something to learn and make up their mind, they seek out impartial sources because they consider them to be more reliable than those with an agenda. Add to this the fact that the podcast is associated with How Stuff Works, a source many people trust. The result is an utterly undeserved air of authority. I think I'd sum this podcast up as I did in the title of this review: intellectually bankruptRead full review »

Enjoyable topics. But it seems the hosts just brief over the topics. Longer more in-depth episodes would fetch a higher rating.

It is important that in the limited time they provide as complete an understanding as possible with little bias. They seem to me to be as truthful and balanced as they can be.
