“I used to enjoy Mike’s clear-eyed content, and I’ve listened for years. I didn’t want to be someone who “canceled.” But I had to stop when Mike spent an entire episode talking with white people about how Black people should protest. He defines a racial justice movement by its worst actors and doesn’t do the same for other groups. He had a guest go on a crazy political tirade. And he doesn’t have the clarity to see that the economics mean nothing to people like Dom Smith when they aren’t afforded basic dignity. The economics mean nothing when a guy knows he can get shot on the street because of his skin color. The point of the protest was for fans to feel that hard earned money lost and understand that none of us deserve a sense of normalcy when Black people experience so much injustice. A lost game of baseball is a minuscule price for us to pay to bring attention to the systemic racism that plagues us and Mike doesn’t seem to understand that. It’s a shame to lose this well-produced podcast in my weekly routine, but Mike’s worldview that permeates through every discussion is not culturally competent. I’d rather find a podcast that won’t lecture listeners about peaceful protest because a baseball game was postponed. A disappointing end to a decent run with a podcast.”
