Silly French Voices spoiled it
I’ve been following this podcast for three months or so now, In this post Brexit stupid name-slanging era I happily came across this mature take on politics, and had a four stars feeling about it, adding it to my Economist, Times, NS and Guardian list. However, I was disappointed at the end of the 16 Feb 2017 Rory Bremner issue, to hear the podcast team doing a childish take on French politicians’ names. I sadly felt a star fall from my appreciation. Macron, Fillon bonbon ognion etc - ha ha, harmless really and only at a playground level I know, but redolent nonetheless of the Fawlty Towers low level mockery of foreigners (think the waiter Manuel) that I think has in part led to the snide, puerile English (sic) cultural alienation from the rest of Europe. However, even (and perhaps especially) with this particular contribution, many thanks to Cambridge Talking Politics for an ever deeper understanding of why we are where we are. ps : I am a UK citizen resident in France bilingual French English so am vaccinated from the Allo Allo effect.

They respect the intelligence of their listeners and never engage in the trite punditry...Read full review »
