Can Be Interesting, But You Will Have To Stomach California Narcissism First
I found the beginning of the podcast to be off-putting. It is extremely self-serving. The talks are short, shallow, pollitically correct, unchallenging, sometimes interesting and entertaining. Most of the speakers give well-planned powerpoint style talks. However, I wish that the talks were longer, because most of the speakers are profound thinkers and twenty minutes does not do them enough time to really develop their topic. The TED talks are geared for dillantantes with short attention spans. The arts portion of TED is so plain, unoffensive and pollitically correct that it makes "Up With People" look like real art. There are a lot of innovative and creative people who can not afford to spend 3,000 dollars on a ticket to a weekend schmoozefest in California. TED does not necessarily attract the best and the brightest--it attracts very wealthy dilantes. It does not encourage participants to explore the subjects. Because TED does not have question and answer sessions as part of its format, it encourages participants to be passive listeners, not active participants. It is for California narcissists who have more money than sence, who need to think they are on the cutting edge and who need lots and lots of ego boo. That IS the major problem with TED.Read full review »
