Joy Division
Hi. Enjoyed the ep on JD. Manchester was not a third World City but post industrial, probably the first city in the world to be be so defined. You have to imagine acres of sooty red Victorian buildings, some of them still working factories most not. Terraced housing crumbling away and post war council housing going up to replace it. Manchester though was very cultured - an excellent University, art galleries and interesting restaurants. Surrounding Manchester too, Macclesfield in the Peak District - misty moors and hills with sheep and old farmers. Like Tolkien. Ian Curtis was also a theology student. You can’t understand him if you don’t grasp this.

This is an essential podcast for music...Read full review »

They do their homework on the history of the band, the recording of the album, they even discuss the cover art....Read full review »
