“I find the American History Podcast to be one of the best - if not the best - US History podcasts available. I started listening a few years ago looking for some details on a particular era and subject. I found every one of the episodes I heard to be well-researched, accurate and informative. So I went back and listened to every episode and found each one to be very good or better and very well researched.
I see that Shawn has some detractors here on the reviews. From the ones that I read, most are not critical of his treatment of the facts and the subject, but that he may not agree with their biased view toward a subject. You may notice that the critics are mostly commenting on current events and "their" opinion on them. None of the critics are saying his treatment of 'Thomas Jefferson' is biased or his description of the 'Era of Good Feelings' or any other such non-contemporary timeframe or topic is inaccurate or biased. I think that speaks more to the political biases of the critics more so than any of Shawn's.
Every historian knows that history is subjective. Short of a cold list of facts and figures, every treatment of a historical subject - even what gets included or excluded in the treatment - is subject to interpretation. Shawn is extraordinary in this respect as he is always clear about his viewpoint whenever he offers his subjective opinions on a topic.
But I find his treatment of the topics to be excellent, well-researched and you will be doing yourself a favor by subscribing and listening to the podcast yourself and making your own assessment. I think you'll like what you hear.”Read full review »
