I’m not a scholar or historian. Just a nurse who is fascinated by ancient history. The Ancients is easily the best pod for all things ancient history. Tristan is a great host and the guests he interviews are top notch. Highly recommend The Ancients.

You don’t think it’s really hypocritical for a British show to talk about looted artefacts, but NOT mention the notorious Elgin marbles?! Shame on you.

I love this podcast. If you love learning about ancient history, this is the best podcast around.

I have subscribed to this channel for a while now and find every episode worth while. The series on Pompeii made my recent visit even more enjoyable. One of my better podcast subscriptions.

The Star Carr episode is exemplary.

I understand monetization may be necessary, however, the majority of what’s released is unavailable to me because I don’t have the funds to join. The podcast is excellent, but I am close to unsubscribing because almost every time I check to see the new episode, I can’t listen. It becomes...Read full review »

The Ancients is a great podcast for ancient history buffs, and I really appreciate how varied, accessible and informative it is. A very knowledgeable and well prepared host with a fantastic array of real expert guests. I highly recommend listening to all episodes, not just the ones you think will interest you. I have found some of those where I thought the topic wouldn’t really be interesting to actually be fascinating.

5 stars plus for Mr Tristan and company. Don’t miss it. Consistent and informative. Tristan asks many of the same questions I would ask

I love this podcast and can’t listen enough. Luckily there is a huge backlog of episodes. The quality of the interviews with eminent academics and the topics chosen are perfect for ancient history nerds. Persians, the Neolithic, history of the bible, classical Greece and Rome. Keep up the good work!

Every episode is interesting. Great listen. Wonderful guests. Keep it up Tristan!

Was quickly becoming my favorite prehistory podcast, and I’ve tried all I can find, though now it’s reverted to extensively covered topics of Greece and Rome. I hope Tristan makes more of an effort to explore non European topics, and for me those are far and away the best; his episodes on the...Read full review »

I’m about 20 episodes in to this show which I generally listen to on my early morning walk (march) with doggo. I’m v selective on the subjects that I engage with, these are predominantly centred around early hominids, which set my mind wildly speculating about all manner of theories about how we...Read full review »

When discussing BA burial protocol in ancient Jericho, “You gotta make room for Auntie, who’s just popped her clogs” I do hope future digital archeologists treasure this gem!

tristan’s impeccable work on this show convinced me to become a paid subscriber. i listen to a near-excessive amount of podcasts, and am *very* persnickety about what media i consume. i’ve never once been disappointed or left desiring by any episode (except for when i realized i had caught up...Read full review »

Why are historians and academics so painfully boring people??? Honestly why? Such great subject matter… extremely intelligent people yet they truely struggle with the fundamentals of how to have an attractive personality. Yea if you makes shows about history don’t be a painfully boring...Read full review »

I came across this show a few hundred episodes ago and have been a regular listener ever since. As an expat Aussie living in Europe I have had the chance to visit many of the sites featured. Most recently I was in Rome - Ben Kane’s travel tip about Ostia was super - thanks a lot you guys! Also to...Read full review »

In this interview, I learned more on Gilgamesh--his love, life, & adventures, than ever before. I am grateful. There are many compelling components, variations, and themes to this truly epic story that I now know more about. The Ancients is one of the best podcasts I know of. I came here to learn more about Homo Naledi, and it is definitely a podcast I will have on regularly. I love it.

What is it with North American commentators and the word right? Right? Right? It detracts so much from what would be a great narrative & dumbs it down completely right ?

Really enjoy this podcast for the content but some episodes are “unlistenable” due to a massive mismatch in volume between the host and the guest. I would think a show with so many episodes and listeners would do a better job in post processing. Otherwise great!

I give five stars for Everything other than the Jesus episode I just listened to. Her laughing and acting like the history of Jesus is funny and fiction. She needs to read the Bible!
