Nice try but only so-so after all
Alfred Molina & Constance Zimmer are super actors, but the writer(s) here should have gone for camp rather than the unironic use of high-school level noir clichés. The dialog, especially that of the protagonist Hank, is so derivative, unrealistic, and unimaginative as to be pretty awful. We're supposed to wonder why the late Hank had such an obsession for a hard-boiled, seen-it-all cop, but at the end it's hard to care what drove him. And yes, the booze product placement was as ham-handed as could be. All that said, the killer's speech at the big reveal was good enough to earn the 3rd star.Read full review »
